Marriage Loan by Abu Dhabi: 150,000 AED Aid for Emiratis

|

Your dream wedding is only one application away with Abu Dhabi’s generous interest-free marriage loans.

In a surprising announcement, Abu Dhabi introduced a new initiative to support young Emirati couples seeking to get married. The Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority (SSA) is now offering interest-free marriage loans of up to 150,000 AED.

This blog explores the importance and impact of the marriage loan initiative, detailing its objectives, application process, and broader social implications.

The Rising Cost of Weddings in Abu Dhabi

Marriage loan helps couples plan grand weddings with ease.

Weddings in Abu Dhabi are known for their luxury and elegance, but they also come with hefty price tags. On average, a mid-range wedding in Abu Dhabi can cost up to $82000 USD or approximately 300,000 AED.

These high costs can place a significant financial burden on couples and their families, often making it challenging to host even a modest event. Comparing these costs to global wedding expenses, it is evident that Abu Dhabi ranks among the most expensive places to get married.

Abu Dhabi has launched the Marriage Loan initiative to help couples afford the wedding they deserve.

The Marriage Loan Initiative: An Overview

The Marriage Loan initiative by the Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority is a strategic response to the financial challenges faced by young Emirati couples. This program offers interest-free loans up to 150,000 AED, specifically designed to cover wedding expenses.

The primary objectives of this initiative are to promote early marriages, enhance family stability, and support the growth of the Emirati population. The official announcement of this initiative was made in early 2024, with the application process set to begin in September 2024.

What are the Marriage Loan Eligibility Criteria?

Wedding Costs Can Go High Without Marriage Loans

To ensure that the marriage loan reaches those who need it the most, the SSA has outlined specific marriage loan eligibility criteria. These include:

  • Age and Citizenship Requirements: The couple must be citizens of the United Arab Emirates. The husband must be at least 21 years old, and the wife must be at least 18.
  • Income and Employment Conditions: The husband’s monthly income must not exceed $16500 or 60,000 AED, ensuring that the loan assists couples who may have difficulty financing their weddings on their own.
  • Necessary Documentation and Family Book Requirement: The husband must possess a Family Book issued by Abu Dhabi, which confirms the family’s residency and status in the emirate.

Application Process Simplified

Applying for a marriage loan is designed to be a straightforward and user-friendly process. Here is a step-by-step guide:

  1. Initiating the Application: The husband is required to submit the application through the Medeem Digital Platform, an online portal managed by the Abu Dhabi government.
  2. Required Documentation: Applicants submit necessary documents for the marriage loan application, including the Family Book and proof of income.
  3. Application Deadlines: The application process begins in early September 2024. Couples planning to marry within the next six months pass the marriage loan eligibility criteria to apply.

In Abu Dhabi, a Family Book (also known as a “Khulasat Al Qaid” in Arabic) is an official document issued by the UAE government that serves as a record of family members and their relationships

The Social Impact of the Marriage Loan

The initiation of the marriage loan program is expected to have far-reaching positive effects on Emirati society:

  • Early Marriages and Family Growth: By alleviating the financial pressures associated with weddings, the marriage loan encourages young couples to start their families earlier.
  • Financial Security for Young Couples: Starting married life with financial aid ensures a more stable and secure future. Couples can focus on building their lives together without the immediate stress of repaying large wedding debts.

These impacts align with Abu Dhabi’s broader social policies aimed at enhancing family well-being and community stability. The marriage loan initiative is a strategic investment in the future of Emirati families, fostering a supportive environment for young couples to thrive.
